Position Title: Database Administrator
Job Summary: Design, evaluates, installs, and administers databases and their components and facilities. He provides technical support services to personnel in other ITG teams. Plans, prepares, recommends and implements medium-term roadmaps for databases and components he administers
Role Exposure:
- Installs and administers databases and their corresponding components and facilities. Maintains the database uptime, performance and security at the agreed service levels.
- Research industry developments regarding his assigned database and components, to learn and implement better administration practices, understand cost-effective alternatives, and to guard against unplanned obsolescence. Where needed, recommends better and/or more cost-effective replacement infrastructure.
- Provides technical support to personnel in data center operations, applications management, and risk management. Provides inputs to applications managers on database considerations so they can design applications optimally.
- Communicates, and coordinates with database vendors regarding product updates, fixes, and support requirements. Periodically reviews vendor performance vis-a-vis Service Level Agreements.
- Periodically monitors the “health” and performance of his assigned database and components and regularly reports the status of such to his seniors.
- Performs regular housekeeping on his assigned databases and components, e.g. cleanup of unnecessary components, system-level backup, vendor preventive maintenance, etc. as applicable.
- Documents the configuration of his assigned database and components, and keeps such documentation updated and secure.
- Provide recommendations on how changes and improvements to the database systems and its configuration, based on system data review, to improve performance, manage capacity, and pro-actively correct inefficiencies.
- Performs configuration management, change management, availability management, security and patch management.
- Performs root cause assessment and recommends permanent resolutions to issues and problems encountered.
- Recommends and implements the automation of recurring tasks.
- Identifies infrastructure monitoring gaps and recommends tools and actions to close the gaps.
- Performs capacity management by collecting historical statistics and forecasting future growth. Sets the necessary thresholds to alert if resources additions need to be made. Triggers the necessary implementation of resource allocations.
- Performs other functions that may be assigned from time to time.
