Database Administrator
Job Summary
The Database Administrator evaluates, installs, and administers major, complex, and enterprise-level infrastructure components and facilities. He provides technical support services to personnel in Core Banking Project operations. Plans, prepares, recommends and implements medium-term road maps for the enterprise-level infrastructure that he manages.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
- Installs and administers major, very-complex, enterprise-level infrastructure components and facilities. Maintains infrastructure up time, performance and security at agreed service levels.
- Researches industry developments regarding his assigned infrastructure components, to learn and implement better infrastructure administration practices, understand cost-effective alternatives, and to guard against unplanned obsolescence. Where needed, recommends better and/or more cost-effective replacement infrastructure.
- Provides technical support and consultancy services to personnel in operations, applications management, and risk management. Advises applications managers on infrastructure considerations so they can design applications optimally.
- Communicates, and coordinates with infrastructure vendors regarding product updates, fixes, and support requirements
- Monitors periodically the condition and performance of his assigned infrastructure components, and regularly reports the status of such to his leads
- Performs regular housekeeping on his assigned infrastructure components, e.g. cleanup of unnecessary components, system-level backup, vendor preventive maintenance, etc.
- Documents the configuration of his assigned infrastructure components, and keeps such documentation updated and secure
- Complies with policies on configuration management, e.g. maker-checker controls for ITCRF forms
- Complies with policies on the handling and safe-keeping of super-user IDs for his assigned infrastructure components
- Trains junior database administrators
- Performs other related functions that may be assigned from time to time

Additionally, he plans, prepares, recommends, and implements medium-term roadmaps for the databases and infrastructure he manages.
